🦬 Move or Die
Rear Admiral David G. Farragut of the Union Navy was leading his fleet into a strategic offensive against the Confederacy.
As the ships precisely navigated through the only two narrow straits that were safe from underwater mines - “torpedoes” as they were called back then - chaos ensued. The large ships in such close quarters led to one vessel being blown up and surely more if a quick decision wasn’t made.
It was there, in the face of chaos, that Rear Admiral Farragut made the courageous decision to abandon the safe paths and navigate directly through the minefield.
This maneuver would end up being successful, winning the battle and providing an important victory for the Union Navy.
His command could be heard across the sea and, now, throughout centuries:
DAMN THE TORPEDOES! FULL SPEED AHEAD!
There are certain universal ingredients for success:
preparation
action
flexibility
belief
etc.
…but while many try to include the flour that is preparation, and the egg that is action, they fail to include the sugar and butter that are flexibility and dumb, stupid, sometimes-arrogant belief (you still following?), leaving their cake of success incomplete.
Let’s put it this way:
Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.
So, my question for you is:
When you get punched in the mouth - or when one of your ships gets blown up by a torpedo - what is your default response?
Why You Should Care…
Let me say this: I don’t know what decisions you’re facing, but I do know that you only have two options:
You move or you die.
So whatever that fear is you’re facing today, let me speak into your life and say…
Go. Do it. Leap into the darkness.
If you do, then you may die, but if you don’t, then you surely will, because later in life, you will always regret not taking more action.
By the Way…
I just dropped a new Youtube video!
Every week, I put out a video with three random thoughts from my week - three things that I think will bring you closer to being the man you want to be.
This week, those three things were:
“The Emperor’s New Clothes”
a new way to handle tough conversations
whether or not you actually are “too busy”
… and I’d be really grateful if you checked it out!
As always, I appreciate your guys’ support and am humbled that you would let me speak into your lives - even if it is just once or twice/week.
If you enjoy my content, feel free to pass it on to somebody you think could benefit from it!
Until next time… YOU DA MAN!
