š 3 Lessons about God and Money
Lesson #1: We are not called to have a scarcity mindset! Lesson #2: We are called to be not lazy! Lesson #3: Making money is not a bad thing, so stop letting people shame you into thinking it is!

Good morning and welcome back to the only newsletter where you get to hear me ramble about things I think are important.
Lucky you :)
Today weāre talking God, money, and mindset - kinda like the big 3 - and weāre going to do it all before the shot clocks runs out.
Letās get itā¦
Action is more important than direction.
In Matthew 25:14-30ā¦
Wait, wait, waitā¦ A lot of you just saw me start to quote the Bible and zoned out. Stay with me here.
Weāre going to be looking at what God says our relationship with money should look like (itās contrary to what you might think).
So, in Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus gives us the āParable of the Talents.ā In summary, it goes like this:
Thereās a master who has 3 servants. He gives each servant $10 each. He leaves and then eventually returns:
Servant #1 turned the $10 into $20 so he was rewarded. The master said, āWell done, good and trustworthy servant; you have been trustworthy in a few things, I will put you in charge of many thingsā¦.ā
Servant #2 turned the $10 into $15, so he was also rewarded.
Servant #3, on the other hand, did nothing with the $10 and simply returned the money. Hereās exactly what he said:
Master, I knew that you were a harsh man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed; so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours
The Master wasnāt pleased.
You wicked and lazy servant! You knew, did you, that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to the one with the ten talents. For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. As for this worthless servant, throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
So what the heck does this mean for us?
Letās pull out 3 lessons about how God is telling us to handle our relationship with moneyā¦
The 3 Lessons
Lesson #1: We are not called to have a scarcity mindset!
Did you catch what Servant #3 said? He said he was afraid of losing the money because his Master was āharsh.ā
In other words - he was scared!
But weāre called here to not operate out of fear! Weāre even told in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God did not give us a spirit of fear or timidity but of power and love and a sound mind!
Itās time for us to quit squeezing our money as tight as we can like weāre Lenny from Of Mice and Men. Take some risks and realize that we are called to operate out of abundance, not scarcity.
(Book recommendation: Check out āScarcity Brainā by Michael Easter. Itās a reeeeaaalllyyyy interesting and scientific extrapolation of the above.)
Lesson #2: We are called to be not lazy!
The Master didnāt scorn his servant for making a bad decision, but for making no decision! (Newsflash: Not making a decision is a decision in and of itself.)
Action is more important than direction.
Let me say that again:
ACTION > DIRECTION
So whatās that thing that in your life that you know you should do, you want to do, and itās definitely time to do? Consider this a nudge to do it.
Lesson #3: Making money is not a bad thing!!
Weāve all seen the star quarterback win the Super Bowl, get on the podium, and then say āI want to thank God for giving me the physical abilities.ā
Well guess what - your ability to make money is just as much a gift from God as that dudeās 6ā5ā 240 lb. athletic genes are!
Every gift you have came from God... so USE those gifts to praise and glorify Him! If He gave you the gift of being good at business and making money, then use it and stop letting others shame you into thinking āmoney bad.ā
